What chiropractic care actually does
Chiropractic care is hands-on treatment of the spinal joints and the muscles around them, delivered by a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic. A controlled force is applied to a joint that is not moving well, which restores motion, reduces irritation on nearby nerves, and takes load off the tissue that hurts.
The idea underneath it is simple. Joints that stop moving properly change how load is shared across the rest of the spine, and the tissue picking up that extra load is usually where you feel the pain. That is why the sore spot and the problem are so often in different places, and why chasing the sore spot with heat and ibuprofen keeps failing. The evidence supports the approach for mechanical back pain without overselling it. Patients with osteoporosis, recent surgery, significant arthritis or simple apprehension about being adjusted by hand are managed this way, and it is used heavily with older patients at both offices. **Extremity adjusting.** Shoulders, hips, knees, wrists and ankles are joints too. A restricted hip or a locked-up mid-foot will quietly load the lower back for years, so the limbs get examined alongside the spine rather than ignored. **Supporting soft-tissue and rehabilitative work.** Adjusting restores motion. Muscle and fascia decide whether that motion holds, so manual work and specific loading are added when the joint keeps sliding back into the same restriction between visits.

What is a red flag in chiropractic?
A red flag is a finding that means imaging or a referral comes before any adjustment. The ones that matter most are loss of bladder or bowel control, progressive weakness or numbness in a limb, unexplained weight loss, fever, a history of cancer, night pain that does not change with position, and significant recent trauma.
