Quick summary

ChiroMed does not diagnose ADHD, does not treat ADHD and does not replace psychiatric or paediatric care. What Dr. Justin Bergin offers families is support for the things that sit around it: sleep quality, digestive health, nutrition and nervous system function. A healthy spine is essential for a properly functioning nervous system, and functional medicine and nutritional counselling are used to support the gut brain axis alongside your prescribing clinician.

Understanding adhd

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition diagnosed by qualified medical and mental health clinicians, usually through a structured evaluation rather than a single test. Nothing offered here diagnoses it, treats it or replaces that care. The focus is the surrounding health picture that affects how a person functions day to day.

It is worth being precise about what this page is and is not. There is no chiropractic test for ADHD, no laboratory panel that diagnoses it and no adjustment that treats it. Anyone telling you otherwise is overselling. What is true is that sleep, blood sugar, digestive health and nutrition all affect attention, mood and energy in every human being, whether or not they have a diagnosis. Those factors do not cause ADHD and addressing them does not remove it. The practice's position on the nervous system is the client's own: a healthy spine is essential for a properly functioning nervous system, and functional medicine and nutritional counselling are used here to support the gut brain axis. That is a support role, offered alongside the clinician who manages the diagnosis, never instead of them.

Families arrive here having already done the hard part. There has been an assessment, there is a diagnosis, and there is usually a prescribing clinician managing it. What they are looking for is not a second opinion on any of that. It is help with everything else: a child who cannot get to sleep, an adult whose concentration collapses every afternoon, a stomach that is always unsettled, a diet that has narrowed to five foods. Those things are real, they are measurable, and they sit squarely inside what a functional and chiropractic practice can look at. Dr. Justin Bergin has been in practice for 22 years and is clear about the boundary. He will not tell you to change a medication, and he will not tell you your paediatrician or psychiatrist has it wrong. He will look at sleep, digestion, nutrition and nervous system function, and tell you honestly whether there is anything worth working on. Consultations run at both offices.

Independent background: About ADHD, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Symptoms

Most people recognise their own version somewhere in this list. Each one maps to a specific finding the examination checks for.

  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Energy crashes in the afternoon
  • Digestive discomfort after meals
  • A very narrow range of accepted foods
  • Irritability when a meal is missed
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Restlessness that worsens when tired
  • Frequent headaches
  • Strong cravings for sugar or refined carbohydrate

Common causes

Poor sleep quality

Attention, mood and impulse control are all worse on broken sleep, in anyone. Sleep is often the most modifiable variable in the picture, and it is the first thing we ask about in detail.

Blood sugar swings through the day

A breakfast of refined carbohydrate followed by a mid-morning crash produces a recognisable pattern of energy and mood. This does not cause a diagnosis, and it makes the day harder than it needs to be.

Digestive symptoms and the gut brain axis

Bloating, reflux, constipation and food reactions are common in this group and worth investigating on their own merit. The gut and the nervous system communicate continuously, so we look at both.

Nutritional gaps from a restricted diet

Narrow eating is common in families managing ADHD, sometimes related to appetite and sometimes to texture. Where intake is genuinely limited, testing can show whether that has become a measurable gap.

How we treat adhd in Lakeland and The Villages

Support here means three things: testing that shows what is actually going on with nutrition, blood sugar and inflammation, work on digestive health and the gut brain axis, and gentle chiropractic care for nervous system function. None of it diagnoses or treats ADHD, and all of it runs alongside your prescribing clinician.

Functional testing before anyone changes anything

Rather than guessing at supplements, testing looks at nutrient status, blood sugar handling and markers of inflammation. If the results are unremarkable we will tell you that plainly and recommend nothing. Testing is part of the cash-pay functional line.

Gut health and the gut brain axis

Where digestive symptoms are present they are worth addressing for their own sake. The work covers diet, digestive function and, where indicated, targeted nutritional support, with the aim of making daily life more comfortable rather than altering a diagnosis.

Gentle chiropractic care for nervous system function

The practice's position is that a healthy spine is essential for a properly functioning nervous system. Care is gentle and appropriate to age, and it is offered for spinal health and comfort. No claim is made here about attention, behaviour or medication.

What recovery usually looks like

Consultation and history Your first visit

A detailed conversation about sleep, eating, digestion, energy and physical symptoms, plus what your prescribing clinician already has in place. Nothing is started before that picture is complete.

Testing, then working through the findings Through the plan

Testing is recommended only where the history points somewhere specific, and you are told what it would change before it is ordered. Changes are then introduced one at a time so you can tell what helped.

Review and honest conclusion Ongoing

If the changes have helped how your family functions, we keep going. If they have not, we say so and stop, rather than adding another supplement to a list that is not working.

When to seek care sooner

What to try at home first: protect sleep before anything else, with a consistent bedtime and screens out of the bedroom. Anchor the day with a protein-containing breakfast. Keep a two-week log of sleep, meals, digestive symptoms and the hardest part of each day, because patterns show up in writing that nobody notices in the moment. See a medical or mental health clinician rather than starting here if attention or behaviour concerns have never been formally assessed, if there is a marked change in mood or behaviour, if there is any mention of self-harm, if weight or growth is falling away, if sleep problems are severe, or if you are considering any change to prescribed medication.

Red-flag findings belong with a physician, promptly, and not with conservative care alone.

Cost, insurance and financing

Cost depends on how much investigation the history actually justifies. Some families need a consultation and a set of practical changes. Others need testing before anyone can sensibly recommend anything.

The one published price

Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47

What moves the cost

  • Whether laboratory testing is indicated
  • How many areas the history points to
  • Whether nutritional support is part of the plan
  • How often review visits are useful

What a course includes

  • The consultation and the written summary of findings
  • A clear explanation of what each recommendation is for
  • An honest recommendation of nothing, where nothing is warranted

Payment: The functional medicine line, including testing and nutritional work, is cash pay at both offices and we state that before anything begins. Chiropractic care bills insurance and our team verifies your benefits first. Payment plans are available for self-pay care. New patients start with a consultation, exam, x-rays if needed and report of findings for only $47.

Where This Practice Stops, and Why That Matters

There is a lot of marketing aimed at families managing ADHD, and much of it is careless. You will find clinics implying that an adjustment improves focus, or that a supplement protocol reduces the need for medication. Neither claim is made here, and neither should be made to you.

What the practice claims is narrower and more defensible: sleep, nutrition, blood sugar and digestive health influence how any person feels across a day, and in these families those variables are often under strain and rarely examined. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that there is no single test for ADHD and diagnosis takes a multi-step evaluation, which is why it belongs with a qualified diagnosing clinician. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC sees these consultations personally. Read about the functional and holistic health programs, or start with the other conditions supported across both offices.

Who you would be seeing

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC is 22 years into practice and takes a deliberately narrow view of his role here. He does not diagnose ADHD, he does not treat it, and he will not comment on a medication decision that belongs to your prescriber. What he does is look carefully at sleep, nutrition, digestion and spinal health. Families who want somebody to contradict their paediatrician are in the wrong office. Options compared, honestly

This is treated very differently depending on who you walk in to see. Here is the full set, including the options this practice does not provide.

“Dr. Bergin is phenomenal. Chronic lower back issues led a different doctor to mention back surgery to me. That was not an option I wanted to entertain. After a consult with Dr. B, he was confident that he could help resolve my back issues. I’ve been seeing him weekly to resolve the issue, and I am so pleased with the results so far! More mobility, less pain, and a great customer experience.”

ADHD questions

Tap a message for the honest answer. Call Lakeland (863) 940-3444

Do you diagnose ADHD?

No. ADHD is diagnosed by paediatricians, psychiatrists and psychologists through a structured evaluation across more than one setting. There is no chiropractic examination and no laboratory panel that diagnoses it. If nobody has assessed you or your child yet, that is the first step and it is not taken here.

the clinic team
Do you treat ADHD, or replace medication?

No to both. Nothing offered here treats ADHD and nothing here is a substitute for care from your prescribing clinician. We will not recommend reducing, stopping or changing a medication. That conversation belongs entirely with the person who prescribed it.

the clinic team
What is the difference between a regular doctor and a functional medicine doctor?

A conventional visit is usually organised around diagnosing and managing a named condition. Functional work is organised around the systems underneath: digestion, nutrition, blood sugar, inflammation and sleep. It is a complement to medical care, not a replacement for it, and it does not diagnose.

the clinic team
Are holistic doctors the same as naturopathic doctors?

No. This practice is led by a Doctor of Chiropractic and carries no naturopathic licensure of any kind. Holistic simply describes an approach that looks at the whole picture. It is not a licence, and you should always ask any provider which licence they actually hold.

the clinic team
What does gut health have to do with attention and mood?

The gut and the nervous system communicate constantly, and digestive symptoms, restricted eating and blood sugar swings all affect how anyone feels and functions through a day. We work on those because they are real and measurable, not because doing so changes a diagnosis.

the clinic team
Will insurance pay for a functional medicine doctor?

Usually not. The functional line here is cash pay and we say so before anything starts. Chiropractic care is billed to insurance and our team verifies those benefits first. The front desk will make clear which part of any plan sits on which side before you commit.
