What this pillar covers

A pain control clinic is a place that treats the structure causing the pain rather than muting the signal. At ChiroMed that means imaging first, then decompression, electroanalgesia or graded rehabilitation, chosen by Dr. Justin Bergin, DC after he has read your films. Four services sit in this line and all four run at both offices.

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC performs every examination personally, 22 years into practice, at Lakeland and at Lady Lake for the Villages market.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression is computer-controlled traction that creates negative pressure inside a disc, which encourages protruding material to retract and helps nutrients move back into the disc space. It is the first line of care here for a herniated or bulging disc, for degenerative disc disease and for the leg pain that travels with them. Read about computer-controlled traction for a compressed disc.

Neuromed Electroanalgesia

Neuromed electroanalgesia delivers controlled electrical stimulation aimed at nerve pain that has not responded to medication or physical therapy. It is run as a course rather than a single session, and it targets circulation and symptom control in the feet, hands and limbs. It is the service behind our peripheral neuropathy work. See the Neuromed protocol for nerve pain.

Post-Surgical Recovery

Surgery fixes a structure. It does not restore the movement lost while that structure was protected. Post-surgical recovery here is a graded program of mobility work, soft tissue treatment and progressive loading, timed around your surgeon's restrictions rather than against them. It suits patients weeks or months out from a spinal, knee or shoulder operation. Read what structured recovery after an operation looks like.

Pelvic Floor Recovery

Pelvic floor problems are common, rarely discussed and very treatable. Weakness or overactivity in those muscles shows up as leaking, urgency, pelvic pain or instability in the low back, and the usual advice stops at exercises nobody demonstrates. This program treats the pelvis as part of the spine it belongs to. See what rehabilitation for a weak or overactive pelvic floor involves.

Physical rehabilitation center

Rehabilitation is a different job from pain control, and two tracks sit under it here: post-surgical recovery and pelvic floor recovery. Both are graded programs, and both are measured in what you can do again rather than in a pain score.

Why This Practice

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC has practiced for 22 years, and he reads your imaging himself before anyone books you onto a table. The differentiator here is range under one roof: a disc problem, an irritated nerve and the rehabilitation that follows are usually three practices and three sets of paperwork, and here they are one plan written by one Doctor of Chiropractic. If decompression is wrong for your disc, there is no commercial reason to pretend otherwise.

Reaching Us From Either Market

Lakeland patients travel in from Highland City, Christina, Grasslands and Scott Lake, and the Polk Parkway carries most of our working-age Lakeland patients in from the eastern side of the county. Suite 13 has parking at the door, which matters when your back will not tolerate a long walk. For The Villages, the Lady Lake office sits on North US-441 just north of CR 466, drawing patients from Summerfield, Wildwood and Leesburg across Lake, Sumter and Marion counties. Golf-cart access and a short, flat walk in matter in a market where balance is the daily problem.

How this line is paid for

Chiropractic care within this line bills insurance, and our team verifies your benefits before your first visit. Coverage for the decompression and electroanalgesia protocols varies by plan and by service, and our front desk will tell you exactly what applies before you commit to anything.

“I have had sich a great experience seeing Dr. Bergin. When other offices have told me I just had muscle damage or the only thing they could do for me was give shots, he said he had others ways to manage my pain and numbness, along with improving mobility. And he was right! I feel so much better!”

Lakeland

“I have had pain in my right upper back quadrant by my shoulder blade for at least a year now and the doctors have been unsuccessful in making the pain go away. I came to Dr. Bergin looking for some help. Within 3 to 4 weeks. My pain in that area is completely gone.”

Charlene L. Verified review
Lakeland

“Dr. Bergin is phenomenal. Chronic lower back issues led a different doctor to mention back surgery to me. That was not an option I wanted to entertain. After a consult with Dr. B, he was confident that he could help resolve my back issues. I’ve been seeing him weekly to resolve the issue, and I am so pleased with the results so far! More mobility, less pain, and a great customer experience.”

Joshua F. Verified review

“I bless the day that Dr. Bergin started working on me. I have had long standing pain for so long. After just a few visits my pain left and I feel so good. He is very patient oriented and caring. I regard him highly.”

Does spinal decompression actually work?

It works for a defined group of people: those whose pain is driven by pressure inside a disc, confirmed on imaging, without a surgical lesion or a red flag. It is not a general back pain treatment, and anyone who sells it as one is overselling. Dr. Bergin reads your films before recommending it, and he will tell you when you are not a candidate rather than start a course anyway.

Will insurance pay for spinal decompression?

Coverage varies by plan and by service, and it is one of the least consistent items in musculoskeletal care. Some plans cover a portion under a physical medicine benefit, some exclude it outright. Our front desk checks your specific policy and tells you what applies before you commit to anything, and payment plans are available for self-pay care.

the clinic team
How do you know if your spine needs to be decompressed?

Three things point that way together: symptoms that match a disc, such as pain travelling into a leg or arm, numbness or weakness in a nerve pattern; imaging that shows a disc pressing where the symptoms say it should; and a history of conservative care that has not held. One without the others is not enough. That is what the examination and the report of findings sort out.

the clinic team
Do you need a referral to go to a pain management clinic?

Not here. You can book an evaluation directly at either office. Some insurance plans require a referral before benefits apply, which our team checks when it verifies your coverage. Bring any imaging you already have, because a recent MRI or set of X-rays often shortens the first visit considerably.

the clinic team
What is the difference between pain management and a pain clinic?

In common use, a pain management practice usually means injections, nerve blocks and prescription medication managed over time. This clinic does neither. The work here is mechanical: decompress the structure, treat the irritated nerve, rebuild the function that was lost. Where an injection or a surgical opinion is genuinely the right next step, we say so and refer.

the clinic team
Does Medicare cover this kind of care?

Coverage varies by plan and by service. Medicare treats chiropractic manipulation differently from device-delivered therapies, and supplement plans differ again. Our front desk will tell you exactly what applies to your plan before you commit to anything, which matters most to our Lady Lake patients across Lake, Sumter and Marion counties.
